Extrusion lines for rubber devulcanization

F.lli Maris S.p.A. is an Italian company owned by the Maris family, with more than 60 years of experience in the design and manufacturing of co-rotating twin screw extrusion lines. All our technology is fully developed and produced in house at our single manufacturing site in Rosta (Turin), where every mechanical component – including the complete gearbox – is designed and built. This structure allows us to keep full control over quality, precision and flexibility across all the solutions we deliver. Devulcanization is the process which – by breaking the crosslinks between chains – turns a vulcanized rubber into a new plastomeric material that becomes re-processable and recyclable. Our patented thermo mechanical process, applied to our extrusion lines, is a 100% green approach and does not involve the use of devulcanizing additives or solvents. Through this process it is possible to recycle a wide range of materials, including: • ELTs including car, truck and off road vehicles tires • ACM • BR • EPDM • FKM • HNBR • IIR • IR • NBR • NR • Q • SBR Chemical and rheological analysis carried out on devulcanized materials show that the devulcanization yield can reach 50–90%, depending on formulation and process parameters. The devulcanized material can be reused in the same original application at 15–50% mixed with virgin rubber while maintaining the required mechanical properties. For different applications, it is possible to exceed 50% in the blend, achieving high performance together with improved sustainability. Our Technological Center is a fundamental asset for customers wishing to validate formulations, optimize processing parameters or produce small batches. It is equipped with four dedicated test lines including a 40 mm line (with D/d 1.55, 1.65, 1.78) and the 58 mm line for scale up activities and small production batches.
