Bicycle shops and retailers have no direct methods for the disposal of scrap tyres, inner tubes and other cycle-specific waste through standard waste collection routes. According to research this is approximately 10,000,000 Kg’s of scrap bicycle tyres and inner tubes annually in the UK. Standard waste collection services will generally refuse to take them as they are considered complex waste. The recent Environment Bill 2021 enacts a hierarchy of ecological collections meaning that the primary route to disposal of the wastes described above will be recycling. Velorim offer a waste collection scheme (similar to standard waste collection schemes), to bicycle organisation of all sizes, on a subscription basis for the collection of bicycle tyres and inner tubes as a core product but also includes bicycle Li-ion batteries. Velorim are also investigating the scope to handle other related wastes.
