The colored recycled rubber has been an ongoing topic among circular materials market for some years. Although the problem is solved for less demanding applications involving the use of rubber granules coming from waste tires, especially playgrounds and low-end sport surfaces.
But once the challenge is elevated to mass coloring of performing vulcanizates, then it seems that beyond the black color given most times by carbon black, no solution existed.
Trederra addressed the topic in more stages.
First, given the fact that good traction and durability performances can be achieved from Trederra’s masterbatch based on circular, post-consumer rubber powder with butyl- and natural rubber. With our partner lab in Asia, we could introduce the MB-2PC grade, which allows a good degree of color ability and is able to achieve a recycled content of 67% in masterbatch.
Going beyond the concept of “partial” colorability and to meet prospects and customers’ needs in terms of specific RSL (restricted substance lists) for some feedstocks, Trederra is working on a new post-industrial grade of recycled rubber masterbatch, capable of adding all colour options. More updates in Q3 2025.
