Abstract
The Government-wide programme for a Circular Economy aims to establish a circular economy in the Netherlands by 2050. The Cabinet's ambition is to achieve a 50% reduction in the use of primary raw materials (minerals, fossil fuels, and metals) by 2030, aligning with standards set by comparable countries. The vision is to create a future-proof, sustainable economy where raw materials are efficiently used and reused without harmful emissions. When new raw materials are necessary, they will be sourced sustainably to prevent damage to living environments and public health. Products will be designed for reuse with minimal value loss and no environmental harm. This programme outlines current actions and future steps towards 2050, emphasizing the Cabinet's commitment to promoting the transition through regulation, partnership, and a systematic approach. It responds to the Cegerek/Dijkstra motion for a circular economy programme and incorporates insights from various societal stakeholders. The success of this transition relies on the continued efforts and unique contributions of all parties, including local governments, social partners, and citizens. This programme serves as a foundation for ongoing cooperation and the Cabinet's commitment to actions from now until 2020.
