Abstract
In fluoropolymers, the hydrogen atoms in a polymer chain are largely or completely replaced by fluorine, which leads to a number of special properties such as high chemical and thermal resistance. Due to this combination of properties, these high-performance polymers are difficult or impossible to replace in some applications. Special materials such as fluoropolymers occupy a special position due to their chemical composition, their small market volume, and their predominantly industrial application. They do not accumulate at the end of their life cycle together with mass-produced polymers such as polyethylene and cannot be recycled together. This article discusses various processes with regard to their level of technical maturity and their suitability for fully recycling fluoropolymers.
