Abstract
The report “Waste Management and Recycling of Tyres in Europe” explores the environmental, economic, and policy aspects of managing end-of-life tyres (ELTs) in Europe. The study addresses the increasing volume of used tyres, driven by vehicle growth, and the associated environmental risks from improper disposal. It provides an in-depth analysis of tyre characteristics, international trade flows, and waste management practices, focusing on reuse, recycling, and energy recovery. Comparative case studies of the Czech Republic and the Netherlands illustrate differing approaches in Eastern and Western Europe. Recommendations emphasize banning landfill disposal, establishing effective collection systems, and promoting advanced recycling and recovery technologies. The findings support policy development aligned with EU waste management strategies, prioritizing sustainability and resource efficiency.
